The SEER School
Founded in Sitka, Alaska in 2008, The SEER School lessons are based on the educational concept of constructivism. Constructivism grew out of studies done by Piaget, Vygotsky, Dewey, and Bruner. Constructivists believe learning is an individual process that happens as students integrate new experiences with old ideas and concepts previously learned. Students build or construct meaning in their own learning. They must be the center of their lessons. They need guides (teachers) to help them navigate through the different learning opportunities and make connections to more complicated learning concepts. In this way, students become life long, independent learners.
Our Mission
The SEER School is a multiage learning environment that provides a personalized education for each student through thematic units of study. The SEER School encourages students to take responsibility for their education and promotes the idea that learning takes place in and out of the classroom, both with teachers and with family...continuously, authentically, and naturally.
